The Future of Food and Social Justice Youth Storytelling Lab
Guided by a diverse steering committee of environmental justice activists and scholars, this paid internship program is dedicated to creating environmental justice stories with, for, and by young people and their communities. We look to the power of storytelling to disrupt dominant environmental narratives and support historically underrepresented populations in achieving greater recognition and agency in their pursuit of food and water justice. The program pairs interns with an environmental justice mentor, provides bimonthly mentorship circles, and offers monthly workshops to train university-based students in environmental justice and multimedia storytelling in the context of a cohort. The lab is co-directed by Dr. Carney and Dr. Laurel Bellante at the University of Arizona.
