The goals of this analysis are:
1) to gain a better understanding of how different actors in Northern Arizona frame the core tenets of and pathways for water security
2) to determine shared priorities and areas of intervention related to water security across different sectors and cultural groups in the region
3) to identify local definitions of leadership and the skills and attributes associated with effective water leaders, and
4) to identify existing opportunities for leadership development in local water issues.
Additionally, the findings will be provided to the Advisory Board for the Northern Arizona Water Leadership Institute as they work to shape this pilot program. Throughout the rest of 2025, the NAU team will speak with people working on water issues across different jurisdictions and cultural backgrounds in the Colorado Plateau, and welcomes inquiries from those interested in learning more or participating. This project is being conducted with support from the Navajo Nation Heritage and Historic Preservation Department.
